If you’re like me, finding something new to watch can feel like pulling teeth. Doom scrolling takes on a new meaning in the streaming service search bar. With each streaming service touting hundreds of TV shows and movies, the sheer number of choices overwhelms the mind. Narrowing down by categories can help us make sense of our options.

From Lassie to Scooby Doo, humans have broadcast dogs through a screen for almost a century now. Inversely, dogs also enjoy watching TV. Consider watching programs centering animals with your pets! Playing video or audio when you’re away from home is proven to soothe pets. Observe what piques their interest, and you can begin to curate a little playlist of your pets favorite videos.

But Wherefore Art Thou, Animal TV?

Sitting on a couch, a light-skinned black woman with mid length chestnut curls in an afro blowout holds a TV Remote. Next to her a yellow lab puppy lays, looking off into the distance. The woman leans forward, feet planted on the ground, with a focused expression on her face.

With the Internet, everywhere. Scattered across a vast array of websites and platforms. Lets dive into the best animal TV programs for humans and dogs alike!

4 Dogs Sitting in a dark living room, entranced by a television with a white screen. On a brown leather couch sit two German Shepherds, on the floor in front of the couch is a brown Irish Terrier. Closest to the Television sits a white toy fox terrier sits on a wooden coffee table.

Sometimes, one desires not for every single media service available for purchase. If you pick and choose subscriptions, you still deserve an animal tv experience. Here’s a list of animal programming sorted by platform.

YouTube

If you need free animal TV ASAP, YouTube is your girl. There are ads, but also an endless amount of info and curation. Be careful with your technology, though. My cat, Juliet, has broken a laptop from pouncing on the squirrels in Paul Dinning’s videos.

Netflix

Other Streaming Services

Of course there are nature docs and reality shows on Apple TV+, Peacock, and every other major streaming service. But there’s also lots of smaller companies providing niche content. Here are some examples:

Thanks to modern technology, we have access to animal programing in the palm of our hands. There’s always “TV for Animals” Livestreams, Training Advice, and Educational Programming. Lots of people who’ve had success in the tv world have also began posting content on Youtube, such as Jackson Galaxy, from My Cat From Hell.

So Many Options!

A Black man and woman sitting on the couch with a pale yellow lab. The dog lays across both couple's lap, the man's hand rests on the dog's hindquarters. The woman holds a TV remote, and rests her arm on the arm of the couch. All 3 stare contently at a tv, which is out of shot.

In short, curling up on the couch with your fur baby and their favorite toy, and watching something you both enjoy is a great way to unwind. We’d highly recommend. Youtube is your go-to for free content, usually streaming services have a channel of their own. The world is your oyster, so get out there. Happy watching!
